Futurebound Corp. helps researchers build an innovative detection system

January 19, 2020 – Futurebound Corp. provided equipment and logistical support to our affiliated researcher Vahid Pourahmadi and his colleague, Mohammad Hadi Kefayati, to further their efforts in developing a proof of concept system for human detection and visualization of such detection using Wi-Fi and CSI methodology.  Overview is available in our blog post here. More details can be found in their published paper available at http://arxiv.org/pdf/2001.05842.pdf

Futurebound Corp. assists a University of Miami Chief Resident in Neurosurgery

July 9, 2018 – Futurebound Corp. begins joint feasibility studies with the Chief Resident in Neurosurgery at the University of Miami to adapt & integrate spinal and brain MRI/CT scan imagery with the Augmented Reality products. The proof of concept system will allow operating neurosurgeons to perform complex procedures requiring precision medical tool guidance without using real-time x-ray or Stealth Navigation equipment on a patient. Additionally, the system may be used for training purposes  as it will dynamically overlay medical imaging data on top of existing surgical training objects using mixed reality and augmented reality methods. Results of our work will be updated via this blog post.

Futurebound Corp. partners with the University of Toronto to develop Wi-Fi Connected Vehicle technology

January 19, 2017 – Futurebound Corp. receives an Innovation and Productivity grant

from Ontario Centres of Excellence and a Collaborative Research and Development Grant from NSERC to jointly pursue cutting-edge research on Vehicle Tracking and Identification with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UofT.
The research grant from Ontario Centres of Excellence will allow industry innovators Futurebound Corp. and Resertrac Inc. to partner with Professor Shah-Rokh Valaee and his research group (WIRLAB) at the University of Toronto to develop a pioneering vehicle communication, identification and tracking system using Wi-Fi technology.

Vehicle communication and tracking systems are used to collect and transmit precise locations of moving or stationary vehicles as well as real time vehicle and traffic data to the end user. Typically such systems are reliant on GPS technology which is inadequate in high speed, indoor or obstructed environments and in applications requiring precision positioning. Dedicated Short-Range Communications (DSRC) systems, such as toll transponders, are currently being used to provide patchwork solutions for vehicle tracking applications that GPS cannot support.

In a promising industry-academic collaboration, the parties will work together to develop a Wi Fi Connected Vehicle system that can be implemented in any environment. The system will run on conventional smartphones or tablets which will significantly reduce any capital costs associated with its implementation, as well as any maintenance costs related to its use. It will provide a reliable solution at sites where GPS positioning is irregular or imprecise. Additionally, it promises to be an elegant replacement of the expensive and inefficient use of DSRC systems for automatic vehicle location and identification.

The Wi-Fi Connected Vehicle system will find application in a variety of settings, including transit terminals, parking facilities, airport grounds, toll roads, shopping malls and luxury hotels, among others. The system is expected to be ready for deployment in May 2017.

About the Research Team:

Professor Shah-Rokh Valaee is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto. He currently serves as Associate Chair of the Department for Undergraduate Studies. Dr. Valaee’s research focuses on Signal Processing and Wireless Networks. He has a particular interest in indoor localization where GPS signal is not available.

Pavel Stoev is the lead engineer of Futurebound Corp. Pavel is a seasoned professional with over ten years of experience in an Intelligent Transportation Systems practice at a global consulting firm. In 2015, he founded Futurebound Corp. with a mission to implement the latest and most innovative developments in engineering technology into the services provided to his clients. Pavel is happy that fulfilling his company’s vision brings him back to his alma mater for this project.
